Polaris Lancer MK-3

A recent addition to the fleet, the USF Polaris Lancer, was the first ship designed to implement the Rail Assisted Missile (R.A.M) Launcher architecture, accelerating its missiles with a rail gun-driven sabot before their engines ignite. These missiles have reduced the time from ignition to target and have increased missile velocity, making the missiles much more difficult to intercept before impact. The Lancer is not a particularly fast ship, somewhat weighed down by the high mass of its many munitions.

The MK-3 iteration of the design takes a more tactical approach to the RAM Launcher platform, significantly increasing ship speed by drawing off some power from shields and reducing the number of secondary weapons it can support. While some of its secondary firepower and shields are lost, the MK-3 has improved battlefield mobility.
